The principle of operation of cooling tower fill is to put as much water surface area in contact with as much air as possible, for the longest amount of time possible. Film fills allow the water to form thin flowing sheets to expose as much water surface area as possible to the interacting flow.
Cooling tower sheet fills or media, come in many different forms and “micro-structures,” each having unique characteristics to fit various applications. Film fills are selected for direct replacement, performance enhancement, and water condition compatibility. Each fill has performance characteristics that allow selections to be made for various heat loads, flow rates, water quality, and horsepower combinations.
Film fill designs include:
Opti-Pac VAF-19 media is manufactured from rigid PVC sheets for cooling tower heat-transfer applications. The media is fabricated from rigid PVC sheets conforming to CTI STD-136 that are solvent-welded for maximum strength and resistant to UV, rot, fungus and organic and inorganic solvents, acids and alkalis, and chemicals normally found in cooling tower waters.
Modules are fabricated in 12”, 24” and 48" depths, 12” and 24” widths, and in lengths up to 12’-0”. Standard sheet thicknesses available are 15 and 20 mil after forming. Weight per cubic foot is approximately 2.6 lbs/ft3 for 15-mil packs and 3.6 lbs/ft3 for 20-mil. Custom dimension modules are available upon request.
